We are no longer accepting surveys to be compiled in our 2019 statewide survey.
Hunger Solutions Minnesota, MN Department of Human Services, the University of Minnesota and SuperShelf are partnering to sponsor a second round of the Statewide Food Shelf Survey this November, 2019.
Once again, it will focus on getting a deeper look at the needs and preferences of food shelf clients through a client survey. New this year is a food shelf manager survey, which has been added to give insight on how to improve support for food shelves around the state.
What you need to know:
By early November, 2019, all food shelves in Minnesota will receive (by US mail) a packet containing copies of the surveys and instructions for distributing the surveys to clients and the food shelf manager.
Each food shelf who returns at least 25 completed client surveys by January 31, 2020 will be entered in a drawing to win $400.
A summary of responses report will be provided to food shelves who submit 25 or more completed client surveys.
A full report will also be provided, combining the client and manager survey results of all participating food shelves to share publicly.
Individual food shelf or client responses will not be identifiable.

FAQ - 2019 Survey
Q: Help! I have not received my packet of surveys in the mail yet! Can you help me?
A: If it is after November 11 and you have still not received your packet in the mail, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will make sure you have your packet soon.
Q: Can we get additional copies of the client survey to do survey more than 25 clients?
A: Yes, you can simply photocopy a blank version of the client survey and administer as many additional surveys as you would like. All data from client surveys you submit will be aggregated into your individualized summary of responses report as long as you complete at least 25 surveys. You can also download and print more copies from the links below.
Q: Can we get additional copies or access to the surveys in languages other than English?
A: Yes, you can download a PDF of the surveys in the following languages below and print for use with your clients.
Q: Can I get another copy of the administration instructions?
A: Yes, you can download a copy HERE (page 1 of survey)
Q: I have clients that do not read in the languages you provided. Can we verbally administer the survey to our clients?
A: Yes, you may have a staff member or volunteer read the survey to clients and verbally administer it as needed. Please be sure to read the questions as is and record their answers confidentially and accurately. You may find verbal administration of surveys works best in a private room with less distractions.
Q: When are the surveys due?
A: The surveys are due January 31st, 2020. (Note: Extension deadline notice was sent 1/6/20) Each food shelf who returns at least 25 completed client surveys by January 31, 2020 will be entered in a drawing to win $400. A total of 10 food shelves will be selected.
Q: Will we need to pay for postage to return the surveys?
A: No- there will be a postage paid envelope included in your packet to cover the cost of mailing back the surveys.
Q: How will I find out about the results?
A: A summary of your food shelf’s responses will be provided to food shelves who submit 25 or more completed client surveys. An overall report will also be provided, combining the client and manager survey results of all participating food shelves to share publicly. Survey results will also be posted on this website once available and individual reports will be mailed to each participating food shelf.
Note: Individual food shelf or client responses will not be identifiable in the overall report.
